The Brownsville Historical Association invites the children to discover the past with Playthings From the Past. This hour long program, occuring every Wednesday at 11:00am in July, uses paper dolls to teach participants about history and each week a new set of dolls and a new era of history will be featured.
Modern paper dolls are over 200 years old and were very popular in Victorian times. Using paper dolls as a teaching aide allows children to connect to the past in new ways. After the program, participants will be able to take their dolls home and create new adventures for them! The July schedule is as follows:
July 14: The 1890s - Known as the Guilded Age, the 1890s were a year of change and children will discover how people grew and changed during this exciting time!
July 21: The 1900s - It's a new century! The people who lived during this time saw their lives improve and the age of the childhood was born.
July 28: The 1920s - Welcome to the Roaring Twenties! It's all about the flappers, the mafia, and the Charleston!
Each class is $10.00 for non-members and $5.00 for members. This program has limited seating size, so pre-registration is required. For more information or to register, contact Rhiannon Cizon at 956-541-5560 or
